We had our first of NiO's offspring born in early June. We have been looking forward to these half Alaska Red Fox babies since we acquired NiO this past winter. Our plan is to save back several of these babies for our Alaska Red Fox breeding program. Once mature, we can breed does back to NiO and produce our very own black tort Silver Fox kits. It is going to be a bit of a wait until these does will be ready to breed, but we look forward to litters with torts in early 2022.
Our biggest (and perhaps best) surprise was two little chocolate kits in Daisy Mae's nest box. It appears we have a buck and a doe, and we will be keeping both of them. We have been hoping to add this fantastic color to our rabbitry, but we hadn't produced any just yet. NiO was a pretty good option as a carrier, as was Bunnywunny. We previously had plans to retire Daisy Mae from our breeding program and replace her with a new doe, but when we discovered her as a chocolate carrier, those plans changed. We are going to breed her back to Nio for a fall litter in hopes that we get some more chocolates to fill some wait list requests as well.
Our rabbitry has grown quite a bit this past year, and we now have a large outdoor rabbitry with room for 8 breeding does, 4 bucks, 4 junior rabbits to raise as replacements for our does or bucks, and a grow-out pen for weaned babies.
This is our current line-up for our fall and spring breedings. We should produce, black, blue, chocolate, REW, and black broken's for our Broken Silver Fox program.
