Fencing
We wanted to choose safe, low-maintenance fencing that works for both our horses and cows. We ended up with a blend of several fencing styles to give us a sturdy perimeter fence, with flexibility inside that perimeter. As we learn and grow with the land, we want to remain flexible so that we can change and adjust as needed.
Our perimeter fence is Centaur's Cenflex vinyl rails installed on round wood posts. We have been amazingly pleased with this product, it's durability and how easy it was to install. We also have a perimeter fence on the backside of our farm that butts up to neighboring farmland. We installed a perimeter on our side of the property line out of Electrobraid fencing installed on t-posts and trees to add a more robust and horse-safe perimeter than a barbed wire or woven wire fence would provide. This combination has served us well, been easy to maintain, and has done a great job of keeping our animals in without any incident or injury.
Inside this perimeter, we use t-posts with a combination of Zareba polywire and polyrope to subdivide into smaller paddocks for rotating our stock. All of our electric fences are installed on Zareba insulators (t-post, wood post, and roller insulators). We have tried several cheaper insulators and they have all broken or failed within a few months, but the Zareba insulators have held tight and strong.
